New Developments for Cold Storage

Research to business meeting

The Meeting

On the way to a sustainable energy supply, storage gains more and more in importance. Besides expensive electrical storage also thermal storage has a significant role in the transformation of our energy supply structure. Especially when thermal energy is the desired product, as it is in case of cold supply systems, thermal storage often provides the most convenient storage solution.

The Carnot institute IRSTEA and Fraunhofer UMSICHT are carrying out a common project about the further development of Phase Change Slurries (PCSs) for cold storage and distribution applications. Phase Change Slurry (PCS) is a binary fluid consisting of a Phase Change Material (PCM) as the dispersed phase and water as the continuous phase. Due to the PCM these fluids have a higher heat capacity than water. And using water as continuous phase the fluids also show a performance similar to water regarding heat exchange and flowability. PCSs having desirable properties have been developed within the cooperation of the partners.

Target group

The R2B meeting is aimed to present new developments in the field of cold storage to the public and bringing research institutes into a dialog with industry. The meeting will also give space for networking and invites companies to present themselves by a small presentation (5 min.) to the auditorium.

Meeting language: english
