+SeniorDesignLab – Design Thinking for better everyday helpers

In the future, more and more people will be dependent on aids in their everyday lives. This is why it is necessary to prepare today for the needs of an aging society in Germany. The question is: What exactly is needed? The +SeniorDesignLab project gets to the bottom of this question – and involves the target group in the entire development process. We believe that young and old, professionals and amateurs, housewives and inventors can develop countless ideas together in the shortest possible time with regard to how to make everyday life easier for the 55+ generation.

Phase 1: Designers, engineers, and technicians from Fraunhofer UMSICHT want to gather as many ideas as possible and discuss needs together with open, everyday-critical people aged 55 and over.
Phase 2: Concrete product ideas are built as prototypes in the DEZENTRALE, an open Fraunhofer UMSICHT workshop (FabLab) in Dortmund, and then manufactured using 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, CNC milling, and other modern production equipment.
