The organizational structure of Fraunhofer UMSICHT is based on the divisions of energy, processes and products in Oberhausen and the institute branch in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. The areas with their departments and groups comprise the scientific know-how of the Institute by expertise criteria.
The conversion of the energy industry to renewable energy sources from solar, wind and biomass requires permanent solutions for society, industry and the citizenry to coordinate the supply and demand of energy with one another. It will require effective and efficient energy processes, new storage technologies and intelligent system solutions.
Modern and efficient production processes require technical processes, in which products are manufactured from raw materials through the use of chemical, physical or biological effects. Our goal are economic, sustainable, resource-efficient and energy-efficient processes.
Innovations in materials and products must meet the goals of sustainable development, especially today. For us, this includes a drastic increase in resource efficiency, the redesign of the interaction between humans and technology, and a culture of innovation that is based on openness, participation, and interdisciplinarity.
