The complex issues of the sustainable shift in raw materials and energy transition form the main focus of our work. Since the foundation of Fraunhofer UMSICHT in 1990 it has been our aim to conduct sustainable research in the areas of environmental, safety and energy technology. We consider classic energy topics such as regenerative energies, renewable resources and energy efficiency, innovative materials, water and wastewater engineering as well as knowledge and resource management to be among the areas of research of the future.
Our sustainability strategy was created holistically at Fraunhofer UMSICHT and is anchored in the institute as a whole. Accordingly, the employees, management and the institute’s steering committee are equally involved in the implementation of the sustainability management. Since 2009 our institute has been using the Sustainability Balanced Scorecard (SCBC) as a controlling instrument. Within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft the institutes exchange views in the Fraunhofer Network Sustainability and developed suggestions for an overall strategy. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft published its first sustainability report in 2014.
We intend to show all our stakeholders (e.g. customers, public and applicants) how our R&D products and services contribute to a sustainable development. We would like to get into contact with you to bring forward these objectives together in order to improve the quality of life in our society in general. We have conducted a stakeholder dialog with business, science, politics and society in 2014 and created a materiality matrix of sustainable criteria (p.7).
Please feel free to contact us, we look forward to your feedback!
