Achema 2018

Carbon2Chem®: Keeping carbon in the loop

Press Release /

Better climate protection requires a reduction of CO2 emissions as well as less use of fossil fuels. Cross-industrial networks give the energy and emission-intensive industrial sectors an opportunity to make a sustainable contribution. At the ACHEMA, the Leading Show for the Process Industries in Frankfurt am Main, the project Carbon2Chem® will present its way for more climate protection in industry in hall 9.2., booth B 74a from June 11 to 15, 2018.

Carbon2Chem®: solutions for a sustainable industry.

In the Carbon2Chem® project, a large consortium from industry and science is working on implementing a flexible carbon capture and utilization (CCU) concept for the carbon-based industry. An example is a cross-industrial network of steel industry, chemical industry and energy industry.

At iron and steel works, blast furnace gases that contain significant amounts of carbon-based components are generated in the production process. In the project under the joint coordination of thyssenkrupp AG, Fraunhofer UMSICHT, and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion, jointly with 15 other project partners, solutions for the transformation of process gases from steel production into chemical basic materials, plastics and synthetic fuels are developed. The modular approach to CO2 utilization within cross-industrial networks enables the combination of climate protection and competitiveness for large industrial locations in Germany and other parts of the world.

The group project continues until 2020 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Visit us in hall 9.2. at booth B 74 1. We are looking forward to a lively exchange with you!
