From green electricity to hydrogen and chemicals: solutions for industry

Hannover Messe

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Hydrogen Island (Hall 11, Booth 011 E09/2)

At the Hannover Messe 2026, we will be presenting our research and development work on our focus topics of green hydrogen and carbon management. The motto: “Fueling Tomorrow with Hydrogen.”

Green hydrogen as the key to industrial transformation

Specifically, we will show how green hydrogen acts as a link between renewable electricity and industrial applications. The focus will be on clean hydrogen and eFuel production processes, intelligent storage solutions, and applications for mobility and industry. We will look at the entire value chain – from material and component development to piloting.

Electrolysis technologies for sustainable hydrogen production

We use selected exhibits to illustrate electrolysis technologies for the production of green hydrogen. We showcase cell and stack concepts from laboratory scale to pilot plants and discuss their prospects in terms of scaling, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This demonstrates how renewable electricity can be converted into storable energy sources.

CO2 conversion to chemical raw materials

Another focus is on the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into synthesis gas, chemical platform products, and specialty products. The technologies on display illustrate how CO2 can be used as a raw material and integrated into industrial material cycles – a central component of climate-neutral chemistry and energy supply.

Process heat without fossil fuels

In addition to material transformation, we are addressing one of the greatest challenges of industrial decarbonization: the high demand for heat and the provision of high-temperature process heat.

A demonstration model of a directly resistance-heated reactor shows how chemical processes can be heated directly by electricity in the future. Tailor-made catalysts and electrically conductive carrier materials enable processes to be operated efficiently, flexibly, and fossil-free.

We will be presenting the following on site:

  • a demonstration model for direct resistance heating
  • concepts for material and catalyst development – from the electrical conductivity of the carrier to targeted surface functionalization
  • approaches to temperature and reaction control using direct electric heating

The technology enables highly efficient, dynamic process control and significantly reduces emissions. Direct electric heating opens up new possibilities for climate-neutral industrial production, particularly for applications in hydrogen storage, CO2 utilization, the synthesis of sustainable fuels, and high-temperature catalytic processes.

Exchange with research – from idea to industrial implementation

Visitors will gain concrete insights into current hydrogen and decarbonization technologies, have the opportunity to discuss industrial implementation with our scientists, and learn how hydrogen production, CO2 utilization, electric process heat, and storage solutions interact.

We look forward to meeting you in person in Hannover. You can find us in Hall 11 at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft's Hydrogen Island.
