Electrification of industrial processes – from the laboratory to the pilot plant

Press release /

The electrification of industrial processes is a key lever for greater efficiency, flexibility and climate friendliness in production. At E-world 2026, the Fraunhofer institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT will demonstrate how, for example, the direct use of green electricity in the production of basic materials and specialty chemicals opens up enormous efficiency potential and can make a decisive contribution to achieving climate targets.

From coated membranes to membrane-based cells and stacks: Fraunhofer UMSICHT supplies innovative and customized electrolysis and fuel cell technologies for industrial applications.

Successful and disruptive electrification requires consistent scaling and testing, from basic research to pilot plants. Fraunhofer UMSICHT will present current and pioneering technologies that support this path and drive the transformation of industry.

Hands-on technology: Exhibits at E-world 2026

  • Electrolyzers: A selection of electrolyzers for the electrosynthesis of basic chemicals (e.g., synthesis gas or ethylene from CO₂) and specialty chemicals – from laboratory scale to pilot plant
  • Directly electrically heated reactor and heating hose: Model of a resistance-heated reactor and innovative heating hose solutions for the efficient heating of process media

Fraunhofer UMSICHT can be found at the NRW joint booth (3R120) in Hall 3. There, visitors will have the opportunity to talk to experts, experience the exhibits live, and learn about the latest developments and trends.
