New systems and materials for electrolysers and fuel cells

Visit us at the Hydrogen Technology World Expo from October 21 to 23 in Hamburg: At the joint booth of the MAT4HY.NRW (Materials for future hydrogen technologies) cooperation platform in Hall B4, we will be presenting innovative solutions for the green hydrogen economy – especially in the areas of electrolysers and fuel cells.

Our goal: to reduce the production costs of electrolysers and fuel cells through new materials and systems. One focus is on ultra-thin composite bipolar plates: These consist of conductive thermoplastic-based foils that are manufactured cost-efficiently in a continuous powder-to-roll process and form the basis for innovative stack designs: With their help, stacks can be welded and built without seals. This means that sealing elements in the stack are replaced by weld seams, which reduces vulnerable sealing surfaces in the stack and thus reduces production waste. Furthermore, this reduces both the number of components in the stack and the number of stacking operations, thereby reducing the assembly effort.

We also present innovations in the use of electrolysis processes for the conversion of carbon dioxide into chemical raw materials. The highlight here is a high-pressure electrolyzer for the production of carbon monoxide, which can be integrated directly into process chains for the production of carbon dioxide-based methanol or kerosene.

Our exhibits include:

  • Seal-free PEM electrolysis stack
  • Seal-free PEM fuel cells
  • Ultra-thin composite bipolar plates
  • CO2 electrolysis
