The path to implementing carbon capture and utilization (CCU)
In 2026, the Carbon2Chem® joint research project will once again host its annual conference on sustainable chemical conversion in industry. The focus will be on the latest research findings, the further development of chemical conversion processes, and insights from politics, business, and science.
The event on October 13 in Düsseldorf will provide a forum for discussing developments in carbon capture and utilization (CCU). Participants will also gain insights into ongoing work in the third phase of the Carbon2Chem® project.
Further information on the program and registration will be published shortly.
Background: The Carbon2Chem® joint research project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), is developing technical building blocks for the implementation of carbon capture and utilization (CCU). Since 2016, a consortium of scientists and industry experts has been working on making CO₂ from industrial process gases usable as a substitute for fossil carbon in the chemical industry. The concepts developed were initially tested on a laboratory scale and, since 2018, also on a demonstration scale with real gases. Since 2020, the focus has been on scaling up the processes.
