At IFAT Munich 2026, we will present cutting-edge solutions for wastewater treatment in municipal and industrial settings. On the one hand, we will demonstrate how we are advancing the circular economy in the metalworking and chemical industries through the recovery of acids and valuable resources. On the other hand, we are developing new processes for the implementation of the fourth treatment stage in wastewater treatment plants. The focus: the effective and efficient removal of trace substances.
We aim to advance the circular economy in the metalworking and chemical industries. To this end, we rely on a continuous process that combines nanofiltration with downstream concentrate treatment. We use innovative, highly acid-resistant membranes that enable the targeted recovery of acids and other valuable resources, such as rare earth elements. This not only conserves resources but also leads to cost savings and a significant reduction in environmental impact.

Cleaner water in the Aller River, in groundwater, and in agricultural areas—that is the goal of a joint project between Wolfsburg’s wastewater treatment facilities and Fraunhofer. The aim is to achieve this through a fourth treatment stage at the wastewater treatment plant. For the first time, the combination of membrane filtration with a regenerable adsorbent resin stage and activated carbon is being tested. In the future, trace substances are to be eliminated much more effectively and efficiently. At the same time, source-oriented measures will be specifically examined and addressed in a way that raises public awareness.
