Professionally experienced

You would like to realize your potential in research and shape the world sustainably together with us? Fraunhofer UMSICHT offers you professional opportunities in various topics, projects and areas.

Climate-neutral energy systems

Which energy storage systems will be needed in the future and where in the energy system? Which Power2X technologies will shape the future cross-sectoral energy system? Will digitization and decentralization turn end customers, but also industry, into prosumers? Research in the field of energy revolves around these questions. Specifically, we are concerned with the development and optimization of energy conversion and energy storage technologies as well as technologies for the generation of sustainable energy sources.

Resource-oriented processes

Researchers in the Processes division develop and optimize processes for the sustainable use of biomass and residues. The focus is on fuels, chemical products, water and wastewater as well as foodstuffs. The services offered range from the analysis of existing structures to the development of concepts and practical implementation.

Circular products

The area of products can be divided into three main research and development areas: I. Development of new materials, II. Development of efficient, cost-reduced processes and III. Evaluation of materials and processes.

The infrastructure and administration departments of the Institute support the scientific processes. Whether it is about the optimal communication of research results, literature research, IT equipment or material procurement, personal training or financial controlling: the employees of the specialist teams advise and support the researchers with enthusiasm, passion and very high professionalism.

The Administration department comprises three groups. The Human Resources team takes care of administrative personnel processes and is responsible for strategic and operational personnel development. Procurement processes are supported and handled by employees in the Project Controlling and Purchasing group. This group is also responsible for financial controlling and the preparation of reports and forecasts. Research work at Fraunhofer often involves travel. The Travel/Internal Services team provides support with planning and accounting, as well as with internal mail distribution and gatekeeping.

Public Relations

The Public Relations department is responsible for the website, internal and external communication media such as flyers or posters. The PR team also maintains contact with the press, TV and radio and designs and moderates events. The preparation and support of trade fair visits also falls within the team's area of responsibility.

In the analytical laboratory, internal samples are analyzed and evaluated. In this way, the team supports the research work in the scientific areas and actively contributes to the successful completion of the projects. In particular, the development of new procedures and methods is one of the core competencies of the employees.

The UMSICHT Academy develops continuing education concepts for industrial partners and supports their implementation and realization. In addition, it supervises the distance learning course infernum, which Fraunhofer UMSICHT offers together with the FernUniversität in Hagen.

The institute's own library provides a versatile and comprehensive range of specialized information and supports research and management of literature. Publications by UMSICHT employees are documented and made available worldwide via the Fraunhofer repository. In addition, the library offers (also individual) training courses on the topics of "Publication Support" and "Scientific Working".

The assembly and dismantling of the experimental facilities on the site is part of the everyday work of the staff in the Technology Department. The team of technical draftsmen and draftswomen supports the scientific staff in advance in the design and planning of their experimental facilities. Their assembly and dismantling, as well as technical maintenance, also fall within the scope of their duties. In addition, facility management tasks are taken on.
