Gulf Cryo, the Kuwaiti regional leader in end-to-end industrial gases and decarbonization solutions across the MENAT region, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Energy and Safety Technology UMSICHT.  The MoU establishes a strategic collaboration in the fields of carbon conversion, hydrogen technologies and energy efficiency, with the aim of accelerating Kuwait’s and the broader region’s transition to low-carbon economies.

This partnership forms part of Gulf Cryo’s long-term strategy, under which the company is already establishing applied research capabilities. These capabilities enable the testing, scaling and commercialization of technologies tailored to local needs.

Promoting decarbonization and circular economies

Gulf Cryo brings industrial, market, and applications expertise while Fraunhofer UMSICHT contributes a strong record in applied research and innovation with a focus on Circular Economy, Green Hydrogen, Carbon Management and Local Energy Systems. Together, the two organizations aim at bridging the gap between research and industrial implementation, with a joint focus on decarbonization and localization to advance sustainable circular economies.

The agreement aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035, which emphasizes private-sector empowerment, innovation, and environmental responsibility. It also responds to the Public Environment Authority’s call for closer collaboration between government and industry to localize technologies that enable a sustainable economy. The MoU was formalized during a ceremony in Kuwait attended by representatives from government, industry, research, and the diplomatic community.

“This partnership reflects our role as a national enabler of sustainable solutions. Partnerships with experts such as Fraunhofer are essential to advancing local innovations and accelerating the energy transition”, Gulf Cryo’s Chairman Amer Huneidi commented. "I invite authorities and industries to join us in developing next-generation solutions that enhance both sustainability and efficiency. Together, we can demonstrate that sustainability is not a cost, but a catalyst to innovate and build stronger economies”, he added.

“The industrial implementation and scaling of new technologies is essential for reducing carbon emissions and advancing energy transition. Strong partnerships with regional leaders such as Gulf Cryo will make this change possible”, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Renner, Head of Institute of Fraunhofer UMSICHT said.
