It is our staff members who make Fraunhofer UMSICHT special.
With their high motivation they contribute to shaping the professional, entrepreneurial and social competences. For us it is common practice to support and encourage them.
We support the skills and qualifications of our staff members consistently in the form of seminars and we are ready to provide advice regarding individual personnel development measures
The staff members acquire knowledge and skills that enable them to take up demanding positions outside the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft later on. This »transfer through heads« - the passing on of technological know-how through persons is one of the tasks of Fraunhofer.
Space for creativity and personal responsibility
Executives do their management work person as well as result-oriented. They delegate a considerable amount of responsibility to their staff and thus grant the highest possible space for creative and independent work.
Target agreement in employee management
In staff appraisal interviews executives discuss the career objectives and personal development with their staff. In order to realize their objectives necessary steps are agreed upon. There is a regular exchange on the status of realization.
Staff members from other nations enrich the professional and cultural competences of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The institutes offer them an attractive place of work and a collegial integration into the social environment.
It is a matter of course for Fraunhofer UMSICHT to protect the health of their staff. For this reason we have the highest demands regarding occupational safety and the quality of our working places. Furthermore, once a year we invite the complete staff to attend a “Health Day” event.
»More women into applied research « is an important goal of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The share of women must be increased in all fields where women are not adequately represented. In order to reach this goal, for all undertakings and programs the different life situations and interests of women and men are to be taken into consideration in advance and continuously. From this, measures for the enhancement of equal opportunities will be derived for personnel recruitment as well as for the entire period of employment of female personnel.
One main focus of equal opportunities is the criterion of combining leisure time, family and job. An appropriate work-life balance has a high priority for the staff. As an attractive employer Fraunhofer UMSICHT must provide to all staff members the opportunity to arrange their tasks as flexibly as possible. The models for part-time and telework that already exist as well as the possibility for a sabbatical leave that has up to now not been used very often are to be extended consistently.
“With child office”
The institute provides a parent-child office, a so called “with child office” (“MiKi-Büro”) for the staff members. Especially when sudden emergency cases in childcare arise or in case of re-entry after parental leave the “with child office” can be used for one or two days a week. Equipped with bed, changing table and toys it is suitable for children between 0 and 12 years who can spend their time there while their parents can pursue their work.
Holiday care for children
Since 2011 Fraunhofer UMSICHT offers a holiday care program for their staff’s children between 5 and 13 years. This is done in co-operation with the University of Duisburg-Essen and the University hospital in Essen. The children are fetched and brought by a shuttle bus which is financed by Fraunhofer UMSICHT. The fees the parents have to pay for the holiday program are calculated on the basis of the weekly working time.
Within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft teams are composed as balanced as possible. Thus the creative potential of both sexes, different ages, cultures and scientific disciplines is used and the quality of the results is increased. Fraunhofer has signed the German Diversity Charter.
